Field Grad Qualifies for World Competition

Anthony Sacre, a former student at Maplewood Career Center, recently competed and won first place at the national SkillsUSA competition which was held June 19-24, in Louisville, KY.  Sacre had to participate in local, regional, and statewide Skills USA challenges, demonstrating the level of skill needed to reach the national competition.  At the national level, Sacre competed against 44 other students from across the country to place first in the nation.

Sacre participated in the cabinetry competition.  He received 965 points out of a possible 1,000, making him one of the highest scorers in the competition’s history.

Sacre received a medal, certificate, and tools for taking first place.  In addition to winning the national competition, Sacre was offered a job by one of the judges, who owns Volpe Millwork, a cabinet making shop located in Mayfield Heights.

Sacre is qualified to participate in the world competition in Abu Dhabi, which will be held October 14-19.

Sacre completed Maplewood’s Carpentry program and graduated from Field High School in May, 2017.
