Maplewood Career Center Receives Raven Award
On May 1, the Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Maplewood Career Center as a recipient of this year’s Raven Award.
Each year, the Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual Raven Awards’ Dinner to recognize people, businesses, and organizations in the community that have gone above and beyond to impact the city in a positive way. This year’s ceremony was hosted at the Immaculate Conception.
“Maplewood Career Center is honored to have received this award,” said Superintendent Randall Griffith. “Working to better our community is an important part of Maplewood’s foundation.”
Maplewood was commended for their collaboration with global non-profit, Habitat for Humanity, in constructing a home for a Ravenna area family.
Maplewood students studying electric, carpentry and masonry aided in the process of completing the home over the duration of the 2016-2017 school year.
“It was such a great opportunity for our students,” said Maplewood Career Center’s Supervisor Ted Slankard. “Being able to utilize their studies to help a family in the community is an inspiring experience that will continue to motivate them personally and professionally.”
Slankard accepted the Raven Award in the category of New Construction on behalf of the Maplewood Community Center.
