JOB TITLE: WATER OPERATOR
DEPARTMENT: WATER DEPARTMENT
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: SERVICE DIRECTOR
STATUS: FULL-TIME, CLASSIFIED, NON-EXEMPT, BARGAINING
COMPENSATION: Step one $22.66/hr. – Step 6 $28.40/hr.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operation of motorized equipment including backhoe, track hoe, front-end loader, and skid steer, lawn mowers.
Operation of motor vehicles related to work duties, including medium to heavy dump trucks with and without
trailers, snowplows.
Street breaking, opening and excavation, setting safety measures including sheeting and shoring.
Performs water main repairs.
Safely operate valves on water mains and service connections (“curb stop”).
Read and interpret OUPS requests and correctly apply pavement marking to identify City water facilities for other
utility excavations.
Performs water service customer “turn-on” and “turn-off” in accordance with instructions.
Conducts water main tap-ins up to 1”.
Properly takes preserves and transports water test samples.
Properly reads master meters and reports readings.
Installs and repairs remote reading devices.
Conducts field repair/rebuild of fire hydrants.
Operates snowplows.
Performs various landscaping projects.
Safely hauls material and equipment to and from construction or project sites.
Use of hand tools and gas, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic power tools, including the safe operation of valve
exerciser/clean-out tool, saws, drills, jackhammers, hammers, rakes, shovels, etc.
Must be available 24 hours per day/seven days per week for emergencies and/or maintenance operations.
Maintain excellent levels of customer service.

Follow EPA guidelines and AWWA standards
Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED), valid water license, three (3) to twelve (12) months
related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, repair
manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively speak read and understand
English language.
Must possess a valid State of Ohio Class A Commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
